– 10+ years professional Java development experience, with deep understanding of multithreading, concurrency control, and memory management.
– Hands-on experience with **Tomcat** +, **servlet-based architectures**, and long-lived middleware systems.
– Strong track record of **modernizing legacy systems** (e.g., modularization, containerization readiness).
– Extensive experience with **unit and integration testing**, mocking, and test automation frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, etc.).
– Proven ability to deep-dive into large unfamiliar codebases and quickly become productive.
– Experience maintaining or extending **Zimbra**, or comparable large open-source systems (Postfix, Dovecot, etc.) is highly desirable.
– Comfortable working independently in a small-team environment, with limited handholding.

- Perform **thorough code reviews** of existing and newly developed Java services (Tomcat-based).
- Assist in **modernizing legacy Java services** to prepare for containerization (e.g., Docker/Kubernetes readiness, modularization, dependency cleanup)
- Build or enhance **automated test suites**, especially for extensive modifications made to Zimbra.
- Analyze, debug, and resolve **complex concurrency issues** memory leaks, and performance bottlenecks, particularly within the modified Zimbra core.
- Create documentation and transfer knowledge to reduce single-point-of-failure risk.
- Propose and implement design improvements that reduce tech debt and improve maintainability.
